Dr. Keith Compton
B.Sc., D.D.S., Cert. Fixed Prosthodontics, MS, F.A.D.I.
Dr. Compton completed his B.Sc. degree (1969) and D.D.S. degree (1973) at the University of Alberta. Dr. Compton was in private practice for 8 years before returning to graduate school in 1981. In 1983, he received a Certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics and in 1984 a Master of Science in Prosthodontics from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Most recently, Dr. Compton completed an Implant Dentistry Continuum Program with the University of Miami School of Medicine.
Dr. Compton is presently teaching undergraduate crown and bridge and dental implants at the University of Alberta to dental hygienists. He lectures nationally and internationally on various aspects of reconstructive prosthodontics including dental implants, myofacial pain dysfunction, and correction of severe trauma. He is currently developing continuing education programs to introduce dental implants to general dentists and runs a full time clinical practice, which is limited to prosthodontic care.
Dr. Compton’s family has been active in dentistry. His father was a dentist, his sister is a dental hygienist his son graduated in dentistry and his wife, Dr. Sharon Compton, is the Director of Dental Hygiene at the University of Alberta. He has a very busy family life with three sons and one daughter. Sean, his oldest son, is practicing dentistry in Victoria and raising two daughters, Julia is nursing in the ICU at the University of Alberta Hospital, Erik will soon be graduating from Law at the University of Kent in Canterbury, and Evan is working on his Masters in Medical Research in Cambridge, England.
Dr. Arif Sumar
B.Sc, D.M.D., Cert. in Prosthodontic
Although born in Ft. McMurray, Dr. Arif Sumar lived most of his life in Edmonton and completed his B.Sc. degree in 2005 at the University of Alberta. Dr. Sumar then moved to Montreal where he completed his D.M.D degree at McGill University in 2009. The program at McGill had a large focus on treating the underprivileged and Dr. Sumar participated in the Outreach Program and summer clinic program that performed free dental care to those in need. Dr. Sumar moved to Pittsburgh, PA where he recently completed a graduate program in Prosthodontics, obtaining a Certificate in Prosthodontics in 2012.
Finally, Dr. Sumar has returned home to join Dr. Compton’s practice as an associate, as well as teach at the University of Alberta Dental Program. When not caring for patients, Dr. Sumar enjoys playing floor hockey, working out, reading and, of course, cheering for the Edmonton Oilers.
